You may have noticed a few changes here at Most Popular Websites, including our site badges, new layout and more. We are not done yet. Our next focus will be on new tools for webmasters to help them have more control over their own listings, comment notifications and more.
Our Most Popular Project, which now includes a number of domains that make up a collection of ranked based popularity directory and search portals all now tie into this website to bring even more traffic, which is set to increase our current average of 50,000+ daily pageviews. This means that site reports are being seen by even more people than ever before, making it desirable for all webmasters to become involved.
All webmasters are invited to join us on both our Forums and Live Chatrooms to participate in the discussion and development of the features that will be made available here. Please feel free to discuss with us and fellow webmasters how we can better gear our tools to help you grow and expand your own website rankings, any issues you may have with our site(s), or anything else. Current Features for Webmasters:
Website Popularity Badges - These are the starburst style badges that you see in your website listing on our site, that can also be included on your own webpage. It can be easily placed on your site and can be customized as to style and size and will never cause a dead image to appear, even if the script fails to respond for any reason. Not only is this a great way to show off your current rank, but it also gives us a way to track hits to your site that might not be included in our other data sources, resulting in a more accurate accounting of actual visits to your site and increase in rank.
Webmaster Features in Development:
Webmaster Authentication - This is a two phase process which includes a registration in our community database which also gives you membership in our forums. You would then set your website(s) that you manage and authenticate by uploading a file in the home directory of your website or including a meta tag in your website. **We are also considering a small peice of javascript code that would act both as an authentication key and usage tracker that we can use to boost your popularity score.
Category Optimization - Authenticated website owners will be able to select primary and secondary classifications for their website, which we will use to create a new directory with popularity lists broken down by classifcation. For example, the Most Popular Hunting Websites and Most Popular Insurance Websites. We are currently working on the directory classifications and a system to automate category classification for a website based on the domain name and site meta information. Authenticated, registered member webmasters will of course have complete control over category classifications overriding the automated system.
Webmaster Site Descriptions/Profile - A definite add-on for authenticated webmasters will be control and management of your own descriptive summary about your website that will appear on the report for your website.
Optional Website Statistics - Based on some of our earlier discussions on realtime usage tracking, it is being considered to implement a Free Website Statistics monitoring service for all registered webmasters with the ability to offer realtime statistical reports on your site report, and more in-depth details in a private panel which can only be accessed by the verified owner(s).
